Our Purpose

Purpose

The purpose of the Usman Khawaja Foundation is to relieve disadvantage experienced by children and young people by providing equitable access to sport programs that promote and advance their physical and mental healthand education, and personal development opportunities.

The Foundation operates as a registered charity with a primary focus on supporting children and young people who face barriers to participation due to socioeconomic disadvantage, cultural or linguistic diversity, or settlement challenges, including refugees and newly arrived migrants.

Mission

The mission of the Usman Khawaja Foundation is to increase participation and opportunity for children and young people experiencing disadvantage by:

  1. Delivering inclusive and accessible cricket programs

  2. Supporting educational engagement and outcomes

  3. Promoting social inclusion, wellbeing, and community connection

  4. Facilitating pathways for personal development and future opportunities

Programs and Activities

To achieve its charitable purpose, the Foundation delivers the following core programs:

Inclusive Cricket Access Program (formerly Cricket Hubs)
A structured, no-cost cricket program specifically targeted at children and young people experiencing disadvantage, particularly those whose disadvantage arises from low socio-economic family status, belonging to a culturally and linguistically diverse community or who otherwise have limited access to the health benefits of organised sport. The program is designed to remove financial, cultural, and social barriers to participation by providing equipment, coaching, and safe, inclusive environments.

Education and Development Support
The Foundation provides children and young people who experience disadvantage with complementary educational and personal development support, including scholarships, mentoring, academic assistance, and life skills development, with the objective of improving their educational engagement and long-term outcomes.

Public Benefit Statement

All activities of the Usman Khawaja Foundation are undertaken for the public benefit. The Foundation’s programs are directed towards children and young people experiencing disadvantage, with eligibility and outreach strategies designed to ensure services are accessible to those most in need.

By delivering these programs in close collaboration with community partners, the Usman Khawaja Foundation supports children to overcome barriers, improve their physical and mental health, realise their potential, and become active, positive contributors to their communities both on and off the field.

Through the delivery of its programs, the Foundation seeks to:

  1. Reduce barriers to sport and education for disadvantaged youth

  2. Improve social inclusion and community connectedness

  3. Support positive behavioural, educational, and health and wellbeing outcomes
